Dodgers Fan Loses Tooth After Yasiel Puig Throws Ball Into Stands At Yankee Stadium
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Los Angeles Dodgers fan took one for the team at Yankee Stadium on Monday night.
The New York Daily News reported Alyssa Gerharter, 25, lost her front tooth when Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig threw a baseball into the stands after the final out of the Dodgers' 8-2 win over the Yankees when he noticed a contingent of L.A. fans.
"I saw it coming at me and I remember thinking, 'I don't have a glove to catch this ball,'" she told the Daily News. "And I think I put my hands up in front of my face. I saw it was coming at me and registered that it was coming at me, and I felt it hit me. It wasn't so much painful as it was a shock. So I felt it hit me and I could feel immediately with my tongue there's a hole. And I looked down at my hand and saw there's a tooth in my hand."
She continued, "Everybody was going after it, and I guess we all missed. It was so fast that I don't think it's anybody's fault for not catching it. In our whole group there was only one person who had a glove. So everybody was trying to catch it was their bare hands. I caught it with my face."
Gerharter was taken to the hospital, and met with a dentist Tuesday who re-inserted the tooth.
Gerharter posted a photo on social media after the game showing off her new look.
"Just got home from the ER... But at least we won the game?" she tweeted.
The incident didn't cause her to miss Wednesday's game, which the Dodgers won 2-0.
Puig even met with Gerharter after the game.
"Had to make sure my friend was ok after she was hit with a ball," Puig tweeted with the hashtag "PuigMyTooth."
