Documents: Parents Of Several Kids Killed In Newtown Shooting Intend To Sue
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Court documents indicate that the parents of several of the children killed in the 2012 Newtown school shooting intend to file wrongful death lawsuits.
Probate court records show that parents of 10 of the 20 first-graders killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School have created estates for their children, which would be required to file lawsuits on their behalf. The documents do not say who they intend to sue.
A court clerk says most of the parents checked a box on the forms saying they intend to file wrongful death actions. The Hartford Courant first reported the estate filings.
Sunday is the second anniversary of the shooting. The statute of limitations for most civil lawsuits in Connecticut is two years.
Messages seeking comment were left Tuesday with several of the families.
Adam Lanza fatally shot 26 people -- including 20 children -- before he turned the gun on himself on Dec. 14, 2012. He also killed his mother at her home.
