Dix Hills Home Seen As 'Eyesore' Goes Up In Flames
DIX HILLS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A house in Dix Hills was intentionally set on fire after being a blight in the community for eight years -- and now, neighbors hope it'll be torn down soon.
The blaze broke out at around 6 a.m. Sunday at 4 Carriage Court.
It's rare to hear about people being thankful that a house caught on fire, but that's the case with a house on Carriage Court in Dix Hills, WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reports.
The home owned by a local pastor has been abandoned for eight years and now this past Sunday, authorities say someone intentionally set the house on fire.
The pastor could not be reached for comment, Hall reports.
"Nobody got hurt, thank God," said a neighbor. "It wouldn't have been my choice of the way that things happened. I would love it if he would have just taken care of his responsibilities. But the fact that it's very unstable and dangerous and now it'll be forced to get taken down I think is a good thing."
A neighbor said she has been trying to sell her home for two years, but no one wanted to buy it because of the abandoned house -- known as an eyesore.
Fire officials have deemed the fire suspicious and it is now being investigated by the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad. No arrests have been made.
