Denis Potvin Says Islanders Fans Doused Him With Beer, Soda

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- That's not how you treat a legend!

Islanders great Denis Potvin and his broadcast partner, Steve Goldstein, who were announcing Thursday night's playoff game between the Isles and Florida Panthers at Barclays Center, said on air that they had beer and soda dumped on them.

"Some moron Islander fans just threw some beer or soda down on us," Goldstein said in the broadcast. "Very classy, but that's OK."

"Yeah, it's unbelievable," Potvin added.

The visiting team's TV booth at Barclays is located at the top of lower level of seating near center ice.

Potvin has broadcast Panthers games since the early 1990s.

He played for the Islanders from 1973-88, serving as the captain when the team won the Stanley Cup four straight years in the 1980s. Potvin won three Norris Trophies as the NHL's best defenseman and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991.

Potvin told reporters before the series started that he feels less of a connection to the team since it moved to Brooklyn this season.

"Brooklyn just isn't the same as the Coliseum," he said. "You can't ask me the question 'What's it like to go home, Denis?' I'm not going home. I'm going to New York to cover the modern-day New York Islanders."

The series between the Islanders and Panthers is tied 2-2. Game 5 will be played at 8 p.m. Friday in Sunrise, Florida.
