Delta Unveils JFK Terminal Expansion
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Delta Airlines unveiled Tuesday the second phase of its $1.4 billion upgrade of JFK Airport's Terminal 4.
The latest expansion adds 11 new gates at the terminal and allows the airline to relocate a majority of its connecting flights from Terminal 2, said Delta Senior Vice President Gail Grimmett.
"Now everything's inside," she told WCBS 880's Marla Diamond. "And it's a lot more comfortable with the jet bridges, so it's easier back and forth. It's easier on the customers."
Passengers seemed to like the changes.
"This is wonderful. It's a long way from the front," laughed Lou Ashmore, who was flying to North Carolina. " ... I need the exercise, though."
"I fly here all the time," added Mike, of New York City. "It's really good. A lot of food choices, easy luggage getting in and out. It's good."
Other new additions include improved check-in and electrical outlets at every waiting-area seat.
The expansion is part of Delta's $2 billion commitment to modernize terminals at JFK and LaGuardia airports.
The airline unveiled the first -- and largest -- phase of the project in 2013, when new restaurants, including Shake Shack, Uptown Brasserie and Blue Smoke, were unveiled.
