Driver Charged In Deadly Car Fire On Gowanus Expressway
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A driver is accused of causing a deadly car fire on the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn early Friday morning, then leaving his passenger in the burning vehicle.
All lanes have since reopened on the southbound side of the expressway after the car became fully engulfed in flames around 4 a.m. near exit 26, not far from the Prospect Expressway split.
Police said 23-year-old Saeed Ahmad was speeding, lost control and hit a barrier.
He allegedly got out of the car, left the scene and took a cab to a hospital, where he was treated for burns.
His passenger, 25-year-old Harleen Grewel, died at the scene.
