Funeral Held For Former NYPD Officer David Hofer, Killed In Texas Last Week

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The NYPD said farewell Monday morning to one of their fallen brothers.

Former NYPD officer David Hofer was shot dead while on duty near Dallas last week. Hofer was gunned down responding to reports of shots fired in a park.

The 29-year-old Brooklyn native spent five years with the NYPD before relocating to Texas in 2014, where he worked with the Euless police force.

Hofer's funeral was held at St. Patrick's Cathedral.

More than 500 NYPD officers, along with officers from around the country, attended the service, CBS2's Scott Rapoport reported.

Hofer went to St. Ann's High School in Brooklyn before graduating from NYU in 2009, Rapoport reported. He was assigned to the 9th Precinct in the East Village when he was with the NYPD.

Hofer was engaged to be married.

"A wonderful kid," one mourner told Rapoport. "He has a big heart. His dedication was to people."
