Cuomo's Security Detail Steps In To Help Driver In Upstate Accident
ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A distressed driver upstate got unexpected help from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's security detail Tuesday, after hitting a concrete barrier and a flatbed truck with his sport-utility vehicle.
According to New York State Police and the governor's office, the four-member detail dropped Cuomo at the airport following an appearance in Binghamton.
Shortly after noon Tuesday, they came on the accident on Route 17 that ended with the SUV attached to the rear of the truck and both stopped on the shoulder of the highway.
They saw the driver was having a medical problem, apparently having a seizure, called 911, removed him from the vehicle and lay him down, checked his vital signs and stayed with him until an ambulance arrived.
A uniformed trooper arrived to deal with the accident.
