Mayor De Blasio Left Off List Of Delegates Heading To Puerto Rico With Gov. Cuomo
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- When Gov. Andrew Cuomo leads a delegation to Puerto Rico to talk about the island's economic problems next week, Mayor Bill de blasio will not be in attendance.
As WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported, when the governor was asked why the mayor was left off the list, he made it sound like it wasn't his decision.
"It was basically what the governor of Puerto Rico and the officials in Puerto Rico asked for," Cuomo said.
The governor said they wanted people with expertise in finance and health care, given the current crisis the island faces.
"They can't pay their debt. Their costs are burgeoning and they need help," Cuomo said.
Joining Cuomo will be some of de Blasio's allies, most notably City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, who is of Puerto Rican decent.
