Crumbs Bake Shop Reopens First Store In Midtown

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Cupcake fans rejoice! Crumbs Bake Shop is back in New York City.

The flagship store at 37th Street and Broadway reopened Tuesday morning.

The bake shop chain went bankrupt and closed all of its 48 stores in July, but an investment group forked over $6.5 million to revive the failed cupcake chain.

Product offerings at the new Crumbs will be more diversified, with cupcakes only making up about half the menu.

"What you're ultimately trying to do is get a frequency of visits from a customer and that the more narrow your product is the less frequent you're going to see that customer," entrepreneur Marcus Lemonis, who is part of the new ownership group, told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell.

Some of the new offerings include a Baissant, a cross between a bagel and a croissant.

Customers lining up Tuesday morning were excited to see Crumbs back in business.

"I came in early for this," one woman told 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck. "I'm so happy, just happy that it's open."

"Very excited! I love them dearly and I'm so glad they're back," another customer said. "I've had to go to other places and nothing compares to them."

They expect to reopen 16 stores in the New York area.
