2 teenagers shot in deli in Crown Heights, Brooklyn
NEW YORK -- Two teenagers were shot in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on Wednesday morning and police say it appears they were innocent bystanders.
The NYPD is looking for two other teens who may have pulled the trigger.
It happened at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Eastern Parkway. Teens who were just buying sandwiches and other food inside that deli were shot, the store clerk said, by people standing outside the store.
"I was sitting there having a cup of coffee. I heard like four or five gunshots," said John Anderson, who was visiting from Georgia.
A few doors down from that coffee shop, bullets pierced the counter of Wise Deli & Grill and struck a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy.
"The girl, she got shot on her legs, one of them on the arm," deli worker Adnan Ahmed said.
Ahmed was behind the counter and helped render aid.
"The girl, she was feeling dizzy a little bit. I give her water, was trying to help until the ambulance came," Ahmed said.
He said the door to the deli was open.
"They were shooting from outside and the kids, they get shot inside," Ahmed said.
Ahmed said there was no argument prior to the shooting at around 9:30 a.m.
"We heard the shots then everybody ran to the back," he said.
A 15-year-old girl suffered an ankle injury from running.
All the teens were taken to a local hospital and are expected to be OK. Police sources say it appears the injured were not the intended targets.
Police said two teen boys ran off -- one wearing a black hooded sweater and black pants and the other a red hooded sweater and grey pants.
