3 Costumed Characters Arrested After Clashing With Tourists In Times Square
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A trio of costumed characters in Times Square ended up in handcuffs after clashing with tourists on Thursday afternoon.
According to police, a woman dressed as 'Anna' from the Disney movie 'Frozen' got into an argument over money with a tourist. A man dressed as the 'Incredible Hulk' also got involved in the incident, CBS2 reported.
Around the same time, a man dressed as 'Iron Man' got involved in a dispute over money with another tourist, police said.
All three were charged with petty larceny, police said.
The arrests came on the same day that new zones were designated in Times Square in an effort to regulate costumed characters and other street performers.
Late Wednesday night, workers started painting the color-coded areas, which take effect on June 21. Under the new guidelines, characters and performers can solicit money in designated "blue" zones and tourists can take in the sights without solicitation in green "chill" zones.
It is unclear whether or not the characters were inside designated zones at the time of the incidents.
