Corrections Officer Attacked At Nassau University Medical Center
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect remains on the loose after allegedly slashing a corrections officer standing guard outside a room at a Long Island hospital.
As WCBS 880's Sophia Hall reported, a corrections officer who was guarding a prisoner on the 9th floor was attacked around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow was searched floor by floor following the incident and those coming and going were only allowed to use the front entrance of the hospital, Hall reported.
The driveways and doors were blocked during the search, police said.
Nassau police said the corrections officer was slashed on the back of the neck with either a razor or another sharp object.
"He did not know he was cut immediately. He felt a stinging sensation, he touched his hand to the area of the stinging sensation and he realized it was full of blood," Nassau County Police Inspector Kenneth Lack said.
Police are reviewing surveillance camera footage from inside the hospital to try to identify the suspect.
It's not believed the suspect has any relation to the prisoner, 1010 WINS' Holli Haerr reported.
"This assault was a random attack," said Lack. "There is no danger to the public whatsoever."
The prisoner remains under guard at the hospital.
