Cops: Suspect Fled Scene Of Brooklyn Shooting, Hid In Bodega
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn man has been arrested and charged after a shooting that took place in Crown Heights on Saturday morning.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired near the intersection of Utica Avenue and Eastern Parkway at 3:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, police were met by a man who claimed that he was shot at following a dispute with a black male who fled into the New Utica Produce Bodega.
Officers entered the business and immediately noticed that the individual, identified as 26-year-old Obatakum Staton, was in the store and holding a firearm.
When ordered to drop the weapon Staton did not comply, police said.
An officer discharged his weapon and Staton was apprehended, uninjured.
An officer was taken to Methodist hospital and treated for tinnitus.
Staton is charged with several counts of criminal possession of a weapon, as well as criminal possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest.
