Cops Hunt For Driver In Greenpoint Hit-And-Run
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Cops in Brooklyn are looking for a driver who they say hit a pedestrian Sunday morning and then sped off.
Just before 3:30 a.m., the vehicle struck a 26-year-old woman under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway at the intersection of Manhattan and Meeker avenues in Greenpoint, police told WCBS 880's Jim Smith.
The woman was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with serious injuries.
Police are looking for a dark four-door sedan.
Residents told Smith such incidents make them think twice.
"I'm always very careful when I cross," one woman said. "It's a little scary."
Some, like Christian, said the intersection is not unusually dangerous, but can be tricky, especially in the middle of the night.
"Cars go really fast at night," he said. "And it's a lot easier to jaywalk in the middle of the night. So you don't see them."
Cops are also still searching for a hit-and-run driver from early Saturday morning in East New York. An SUV there careened up onto the sidewalk just before 2 a.m., hitting two people. A 27-year-old man had both legs amputated.
