Connecticut Senator Looks To Change Law To Allow Tesla Sales
WESTBROOK, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- When Art Linares went to buy his Tesla, the state senator quickly learned he could not buy the electric car in Connecticut.
He's now submitting legislation to change the state law to allow the sale of the cars, which are sold in Tesla stores in other states, not by dealerships.
"Right now, people are buying Teslas," Linares, R-Westbrook, told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau. "They're just not buying them in Connecticut because they can't."
Connecticut law currently protects car dealerships by preventing car manufacturers from selling directly to customers.
Car dealerships make good money from servicing the new cars they sell. Electric cars, however, require little servicing, Linares noted.
