Connecticut Police Release 911 Calls In I-95 Tour Bus Crash
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- State police have released the 911 calls from a charter bus crash that injured three dozen during Monday's snowstorm on Interstate 95 in Connecticut.
Thirty-six people suffered minor to severe injuries when the Dahlia tour bus carrying 55 passengers from Flushing, New York to the Mohegan Sun Casino hit a guardrail and flipped onto its side in the town of Madison.
"A tour bus just overturned, just went off the side of the road," one caller can be heard telling a dispatcher in a 911 calls released by police Tuesday.
"We have a bus rollover on the side," another caller said.
Eleven people remained hospitalized at Yale-New Haven Hospital as of Tuesday afternoon, WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau reported. Seven people remain in critical condition.
It is unclear whether the driver, 63-year-old Keyi Zang of Queens, was hurt.
Zang told authorities he was merging into the right lane when he lost control, slid off the snow-covered highway and into the metal barrier before flipping on its side, state police said.
It's unclear whether charges will be brought against Zang, State Trooper Kelly Grant told Schneidau.
The bus is owned by Dahlia but operated by VMC East Coast.
According to federal records, recent inspections reveal no critical violations against Dahlia, and the carrier scores an overall "satisfactory" rating.
