Connecticut Man Being Tested For Ebola After Returning From Liberia
FARMINGTON, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- A man who recently returned to Connecticut from Liberia is being tested for Ebola.
After spending several months in West African nation, the man began to exhibit general symptoms of fever and muscle aches, doctors said.
He admitted himself to John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington just days after returning to Connecticut, WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported.
Dr. Paul Skolnik, chair of medicine at the University of Connecticut Medical Center, said while in Liberia the patient assisted in an administrative capacity only.
"At no time did this patient actually come into contact while in Liberia with anyone that did have Ebola," Skolnik said.
The doctor noted that just days ago Liberia was declared Ebola free. But out of an abundance of caution, the man is being isolated and tested for the disease.
Results of the tests are expected in a day or so, Skolnik said.
"Even though the risk is extremely low of him having Ebola virus disease, we are handling this as a potential possibility in doing the appropriate testing and protocols for treatment," he said.
