TO PLAY: A visit to Coney Island is not complete without a trip to Luna Park. There are a few beloved rides that are still in operation from the 1920s, including the historic Cyclone coaster. The Cyclone is one of the last wooden rollercoasters in America, complete with an 85-foot drop and a 60-degree fall.

TO EXPLORE: The wonders of the ocean await children and adults at the New York Aquarium, located near the iconic Coney Island boardwalk. Check out the array of underwater creatures or see trainers and sea lions show off their skills with daily performances at the Aquatheater. The New York Aquarium is constructing a new exhibit, Ocean Wonders: Sharks!, which is expected to be completed in 2018 and will be the home to thousands of fish, sharks, sea turtles and sting rays.

Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest: 5 Fast Facts

TO EAT: For over a hundred years, Nathan's Famous has become synonymous with Coney Island. Bite into their signature beef frankfurter, crinkle fries topped with melted cheese, corn dogs or chili dogs. One of the most anticipated events on Coney Island is the annual Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4. A small number of participants are selected by a regional contests, and hundreds of spectators gather to see how many hot dogs can eat in 10 minutes.

TO DRINK: Before relaxing in the sun, people can stop by the Coney Island Brewing Company for a pint of locally-brewed beer. The small brewery offers free tours throughout the day and educates visitors on the process of making their eight in-house beers. The brewery rotates their menu and offers seasonal drafts.
