City Council Speaker Puts Calls For Reform On Hold, Voices Support For NYPD
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito showed her support for the NYPD on Tuesday.
As WCBS-880's Rich Lamb reported, Mark-Viverito has been one of the more vocal proponents of police reform and one of the NYPD's most strident critics. But at a news conference, the speaker had a shift in tone and voiced her unequivocal support and appreciation for the city's cops.
"What happened to our officers during the protest on the Brooklyn Bridge was disgusting. Wanting to see police officers killed is hateful and repulsive and denigrating our police officers service to this city is unacceptable," she said.
The speaker also joined the mayor in calling for protestors to suspend their activities out of respect for the murdered officers and their families.
