City Council Cracking Down On Used Car Dealers In NYC
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The New York City Council has taken the first step to crack down on used car dealers.
A measure passed 49-0 requires the advertised price of a used car on a dealer's lot to accurately reflect the total purchase price, WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported.
"That means that the customer can rely on the sticker price and will not surprised at the end of the transaction by misleading dealer fees or unexplained administrative costs," Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito said.
Council member Jumaane Williams wrote the bill.
"This actually was from an experience I had trying to purchase a used car and going to four and five different areas and the price that they advertised was $5,000-6,000 more when I got there," he said.
If enacted, the measure provides fines of up to $1,000 if a dealer does not disclose the full price of a used car.
