Redesigned Citi Bikes To Roll Out In NYC This Summer

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- One-thousand new Citi Bikes will be hitting the streets of New York City this summer with a slimmer redesign.
A spokesperson for Citi Bike said the new bikes will have a comfier seat, a better gear system and a steadier kick stand.
The new bikes will be put into rotation later this month as Citi Bike expands in Brooklyn and Queens.
"It'll actually have a hole now (in the seats), which is partly for comfort while you're riding, but partly also to ensure that water doesn't pool on the top of the seat so the seats don't get soggy and bogged down when it rains," spokeswoman Dani Simons told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell.
Another 1,400 will be added later this year.
Some of the older models are planed to be phased out.
Simons said she expects the new bikes to be more durable.
"We're actually producing them in-house now, which provides us with more reliability in our supply chain," she said.
