Citation Thrown Out For Man Who Said Dashcam Proved He Was Wrongfully Ticketed
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn man ticketed for making a left turn from the wrong lane – and recorded his confrontation with a police officer on a dashcam – has had his ticket dismissed.
He had a dashcam inside his car as he made the turn from Metropolitan Avenue onto Marcy Avenue.
Abraham was pulled over, and the officer who confronted him said the turn was illegal. Abraham said he told the officer that he had a camera recording.
Abraham: "I was in the turning lane?"
Officer: "No. You weren't."
The camera's video shows Abraham made a left turn in the proper lane, Carlin reported.
Abraham said he bought the dashcam for about $150 because he has a job going from place to place. Whenever his car's engine is on, it is recording.
The officer ticketed Abraham for an improper turn, which would have carried a $138 fine, a 3-point penalty on his license and could raise his insurance sky-high.
But police called Abraham Tuesday night to let him know the ticket had been dismissed.
