Mike Francesa: Chris Christie Might Be Interested In Career As Sports Radio Host
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Is New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie eyeing a career in sports talk radio?
Christie has served as a guest co-host on WFAN's "Boomer & Carton Show" twice in the past two weeks.
During another WFAN show, "Mike's On" with Mike Francesa, a caller raised the idea that Christie could be auditioning to replace Francesa, who has said he plans to leave the station after his contract expires at the end of 2017.
"I actually think that could be true, you know," Francesa told the caller. "... I think that's actually a possibility. No, I think he might be interested."
Christie's second term as governor will end in January 2018, just a couple of weeks after Francesa would depart. Of course, Christie's support of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has fueled speculation that he could be offered a job in Trump's administration if the real estate mogul is elected.
Christie got into a testy exchange Tuesday with a WFAN caller who asked the governor if he would be happy with a teacher who missed as many days of work as Christie has in the past year and who took a personal day to to host a radio program.
Christie defended himself for doing the show, saying he never takes a day off of being governor and that he still had time to do his regular job after he signed off the air at 10 a.m. He added that he has fun hosting the show.
The Republican governor, who launched an unsuccessful big for president last year, is a big-time, knowledgeable sports fan who cheers for the Mets and Knicks and, much to the chagrin of his constituents, the New York Rangers and Dallas Cowboys.
