Funeral Held For Slain Chicago Police Commander
CHICAGO (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Scores of police officers and other mourners attended the funeral of a Chicago Police commander who was fatally shot by a suspect this week.
Representatives of police agencies from around the U.S. are also expected to attend services for Commander Paul Bauer on Saturday morning at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Chicago. A procession also is planned.
Bauer died Tuesday when he was shot six times while pursuing a suspect he was attempting to detain downtown Chicago. Officials have charged 44-year-old Shomari Legghette with the 53-year-old commander's killing. A judge has ordered Legghette held without bond.
Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner has ordered flags be flown at half-staff to honor Bauer. The city has made sympathy books available to be signed at City Hall and the 18th police district.
