CBS, NFL Announce Partnership For Thursday Night Football Broadcast

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- CBS is adding a package of Thursday night games to its already loaded NFL lineup next season.

CBS and the NFL Network will simulcast eight games early in the 2014 season. The remaining eight late-season games will be televised on the NFL Network, which previously aired the entire Thursday Night Football franchise.

CBS announced its partnership with the league on Wednesday.

"NFL Network built Thursday into a night for NFL fans," Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "Our goal is to bring these games to more fans on broadcast television with unprecedented promotion and visibility for Thursday Night Football on CBS."

Fourteen games will air on Thursday nights. The other two will be broadcast leading up to the playoffs on Saturdays. CBS will produce all 16 games.

The one-year agreement can be renewed by the NFL for 2015.

"We are very pleased to build on our outstanding partnership with the NFL by expanding our coverage to Thursday nights," CBS CEO Leslie Moonves said. "CBS is a premium content company and the NFL represents the best premium content there is. I look forward to all this new deal will do for us not only on Thursday nights, but across our entire schedule."

CBS' top broadcasting team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms will work the Thursday night games. Hosts and analysts from both CBS and the NFL Network will be highlighted during pregame, postgame and halftime shows.

CBS already airs a package of Sunday games.

"The NFL is the most powerful programming in television," CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus said. "To add a primetime NFL package to our successful Sunday AFC package further strengthens our position in the sports marketplace."
