Car Slams Into Huntington Station Lighting Fixture Store

HUNTINGTON STATION, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- An employee accidentally crashed through the front of a Long Island lighting fixture store while arriving at work Friday morning, authorities said.

The incident happened at N&S Electric in Huntington Station.

The 53-year-old employee was parking his car when he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake, the owner of the store told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall.

The vehicle slammed through the glass window, destroying over $400,000 worth of crystal, colored glass and other lighting fixtures, Hall reported.

The building has been deemed safe.

"There's no structural damage, obviously the owner's going to keep that area blocked from the public and from the employees, too," said Huntington Station building inspector Ed Marcucci.

The showroom was closed at the time of the crash.

No injuries were reported.
