Several People Injured, Driver Arrested When Car Slams Into Bronx Building

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A car jumped a curb, slammed into a building, and sent several people to the hospital.

As CBS2's Valerie Castro reported, glass was gone late Friday where the driver crashed through the front window of the store. Police said four people were injured as they walked by on the sidewalk.

Surveillance video captured the car as it careened through the storefront of an electronics business on 138th Street in the Bronx.

"It's horrible, it's horrible -- from zero to a hundred. You hear this noise, and there's glass shattering, and dust. You know, it's scary," said Jhorly Alvarez.

Alvarez, who works at the store, was inside behind the register when the chaos occurred. He ran outside and saw one of the injured on the ground.

"She had eyes closed, she was asking for her dog. Her injuries? She was bleeding from her elbows, and knees, and her back," he said.

Another witness described the aftermath.

"Glass everywhere, and ambulance, police, and I think a lady got hit that was on the sidewalk," a woman said.

It was a terrible accident, something witnesses said they wish they'd never seen.

"It's horrible, horrible. You never want to see that. You don't wish that nobody goes through that," Alvarez said.

Police said that the pedestrians who were hurt all have minor injuries. Police also arrested the man who was driving. They said alcohol might have played a factor in this crash.
