Maryland Woman Dies After Receiving Injections In Buttocks
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The search is on for an unlicensed technician who fled a Queens basement apartment after a woman was injected with silicone in her buttocks and later died.
Kelly Mayhew, 34, and her mother traveled to a basement apartment on Dickens Street in Far Rockaway, Queens to receive the injections, 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported.
According to police, Mayhew had an apparent allergic reaction after receiving the injection and fell unconscious, Papa reported.
While the victim's mother called 911, the woman performing the procedure took off in a gray SUV, Papa reported.
The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at St. John's Hospital.
Officials recovered needles filled with a substance, believed to be silicone, at the scene, sources told CBS2. Tests are being done to determine what the substance is.
Police said the unlicensed technician rented the apartment and women reportedly were coming and going day and night, Papa reported.
She remains on the run.
