Felipe Rodriguez arrested after allegedly trying to kidnap 7-year-old girl in line at food truck in Bushwick, NYPD says

Arrest made in attempted kidnapping of 7-year-old girl in Brooklyn

NEW YORK -- It was a frightening moment for a mother and daughter after police say a man attempted to kidnap the little girl in Brooklyn as she stood in line at a food truck.

Police say the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Felipe Rodriguez, of Brooklyn, was arrested Sunday.

It happened on May 26 as the mother and her 7-year-old girl were waiting at a food truck at 8 Wyckoff Ave. in the Bushwick section around 8:30 p.m., in an area that has a lot of local eateries and pedestrian traffic.

Investigators say out of nowhere, a man came running by and tried to physically grab that little girl.

Her mother went after her child, and after a brief struggle, she was able to break the suspect's grip on her daughter.

That man took off, leaving many in the area uneasy.

The little girl was shaken, but physically, she is OK.

"That's definitely disturbing. I mean, I'm a father of a 21-year-old and 1-year-old. It's disturbing. This neighborhood is not really known for that. Other stuff, yeah, but not like that. That's crazy," cart vendor Ray Vasquez said.

"That's very concerning because my son is 7, and in a situation like that ... nobody would ever expect something like that to happen," Bronx resident Marc Anthony said.

Rodriguez has been charged with attempted kidnapping.
