Woman Killed After Being Ejected From Moving Vehicle In Brooklyn; Boyfriend Charged With DWI
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 29-year-old woman was killed Thursday night in Brooklyn after she was ejected from a moving vehicle driven by her longtime boyfriend, who police said was drunk.
It happened around 11:30 p.m. on Bay Ridge Parkway between 5th and 6th avenues.
Danielle Arronsen was sitting in the back of an SUV when Andrew Berkowitz, 35, made a right turn onto Bay Ridge Parkway from 5th Avenue, police said.
Her door was apparently not fully closed and flew open, ejecting Arronsen from the vehicle, police said. She was found lying in the roadway with head trauma and was later pronounced dead at Lutheran Medical Center.
On Friday morning, Scott Arronsen was sitting on the front stoop of his building, his head in his hands, mourning the loss of his daughter and only child, 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported.
"My baby, my baby," he cried. "She just turned 29. (Papa: When was her birthday?) July 29."
The grieving father is still reeling after a nightmare phone call the night before.
"I got the phone call about 11:30 that my daughter was in the emergency room, to get down there," he said. "I got there, stood with her, and by 2:35 she passed."
Police said the couple had just come from Bean Post Pub before the incident, CBS2's Andrea Grymes reported.
Berkowitz is facing charges of manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, DWI, reckless driving and DWAI, police said.
The couple has a 2-year-old son, who is now in the care of his grandparents, Papa reported.
