NYPD Investigates Possible Hate Crime In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for suspects in connection with a possible hate crime in Brooklyn.
A 17-year-old boy was approached by two suspects on 13th Avenue and 46th Street in Borough Park, Brooklyn just after 2 a.m. on Saturday night, WLNY TV 10/55's Steve Langford reported.
Surveillance video released by the NYPD shows the suspects throwing eggs and taunting the victim.
The victim who told Langford he wanted to remain anonymous, said he can handle the cleaning bills from the egg attack, but the comments that were yelled at him an a friend struck a nerve.
"They says 'you Jewish guys we'll shoot you."
The victims were able to take down the plate number of the escaping vehicle and give it to investigators.
The suspects fled in a silver BMW, according to the victim.
The incident brought echoes of Friday's terror attacks in Paris into the religious Brooklyn community.
"Just bad things happening all over the world, just another example," Borough Park President Yona Lazar said.
David Bartel, a Jewish man, just moved to Borough Park from France.
"I think its just something we have to be very strong and reacting as a community about," Bartel said. "Not just Jewish people, but I think everyone else is concerned."
The victim said it blindsided him, in more ways than one.
"I never had it in my life, first time, and I never thought that would happen," he said.
The investigation is ongoing.
