Ryan Cutter, of Brooklyn, won the men's race, completing the half marathon in one hour, four minutes and nine seconds. Owen Ritz, from Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, placed second at one hour, four minutes and 33 seconds, followed by Tegenu Mengistu Wakjira at one hour, four minutes and 38 seconds.

Kim Conley, from Flagstaff, Arizona, placed first in the women's race with a time of one hour, 12 minutes and 43 seconds. Conley is a professional athlete who competed with Team USA in the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. Coming in second in the women's race was Aynalem Woldemichael at one hour, 15 minutes and one second, and Emma Diehl came in third with a time of one hour, 15 minutes and 30 seconds.

In the non-binary division, Sofia Camacho Ferral placed first with a time of one hour, 14 minutes and six seconds, followed by Elijah Taylor at one hour, 15 minutes and 12 seconds, and J Solle at one hour, 24 minutes and 26 seconds.

The prizes for the top finishers in the Brooklyn Half are as follows: $2,000 for first place; $1,000 for second place; $500 for third place; $200 for fourth place, and $100 for fifth place.

NYRR says at least 100 Brooklyn run clubs were represented in Saturday's half marathon.

"On Marathon Day, just about the first half of the marathon is in Brooklyn, so for this one, of course, it's the entire race, and you really get to enjoy the feeling of this borough. Not only that, but so many runners in this race are from Brooklyn," NYRR CEO Rob Simmelkjaer said.

The half marathon has been taking place since the early '80s. For some, it's a breeze, and for others, it's understandably tough.

"There were times in this race when I was ready to quit, but I just kept pushing forward," runner Shannel Diaz said.

Diaz ran for his father, who died of cancer in the fall.

"I saw him in the hospital suffering, and I'm like, you know, the pain that you feel here, there's a lot worse," he said.

But the whole time, Brooklynites are coming out to support.

"You hear so much music, you hear cheering, you hear people cheering their friends on, confetti, bands, DJs, and pretty soon it's over, all of a sudden you're in Coney Island," runner Paul Tena said.

What is the Brooklyn Half marathon route?

The 13.1-mile route took runners from the Brooklyn Museum past the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, around Grand Army Plaza, through Prospect Park and along Ocean Parkway to the Coney Island boardwalk.

Participants and spectators are advised to take the N or Q line from Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue after the race. On Saturday, D and F trains will not be operating at that station due to track maintenance and signal modernization.
