Dramatic Video Shows Gunman Open Fire On Brooklyn Deli
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have released video of a man opening fire on a busy Brooklyn deli.
The shooting happened on Friday, Oct. 20 at Subway Deli Corp. in Bushwick.
The video shows the gunman arguing with the 27-year-old clerk before firing off at least one shot, targeting a customer in the crowded deli.
Fortunately he missed.
The clerk then threw a glass bottle at the suspect.
It struck the door and shattered to pieces, missing the suspect who then fled.
Shamsan Moazeb works at the 24-hour shop and told CBS2 he's no stranger to ducking from bullets.
"You hear gunshots you just roll up on the floor get down on the floor," Moazeb said.
Although it was 1:30 in the morning, the deli on the corner of Rockaway Avenue and Broadway was busy.
"There was a couple workers and a couple customers too that nearly got hit and I'm glad they didn't get hit," Moazeb said. "They had a little problem but they shouldn't have settled it through gunfire, if you have a problem, just use your fists."
Incidents like this are all too common for Moazeb who's worked every shift and patrons recognize the risks, CBS2's Magdalena Doris reported.
"This corner is crazy at night time, in that store you're going to find about 15, 20 people at 1, 2, 3 in the morning," one resident said. "I always tell my wife don't go to that store, go to this store, if they don't have what you want then get it in the morning."
No one was hurt during the incident.
Employees say they've already patched the bullet hole inside. They tell Doris it's worth the risk to work at the deli because they're building a better life.
