Sister Of Attempted Rape Victim Speaks Out As Search Continues For Suspect In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The sister of a 37-year-old attempted rape victim in Brooklyn is speaking out as police continue to search for the suspect.

The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at a building in the area of Driggs Avenue and South 8th Street in Williamsburg.

Police said the suspect followed the woman into the building and then attacked.

"She said that when she opened the door, the guy attacked her and she was trying to fight him off and he was trying to pull down her pants," the victim's sister, who did not want to be identified, told CBS2's Steve Langford.

The victim fought back and yelled for help before the man ran away, police said.

"Someone rang the doorbell in the morning my mom said, but she didn't answer it. Then we found out it was around the same time the incident happened," neighbor Jayanna Guity said.

The victim's sister said she's a single mom with two children who is now afraid.

"Right now, she's traumatized," she said. "My sister had called me. She don't feel safe and I am going to take her with me. She's going to be staying with me."

And, she adds, the suspect should be looking over his shoulder too.

"I really hope they find this person because if my family was to see this person, it's going to be taken to another level," she said.

Police said the suspect was seen on surveillance video.

He is described by police as a Hispanic man between the ages of 22 and 25, 5'7 to 5'8 tall and weighing between 150 and 170 pounds. He was seen wearing a green hooded sweater, light colored pants and black sneakers and was carrying a black umbrella.
