NYPD searching for a motive in apparent murder-suicide in the Bronx

NEW YORK -- The NYPD is investigating a suspected murder-suicide in the Bronx.

Police said a man shot his mother and stepfather before turning the gun on himself inside a home in the Longwood section of the borough on Wednesday night.

The gun violence erupted just after 8 p.m. at 613 Southern Blvd. Police said two people were shot inside the home. A 57-year-old woman was shot in the head and a 57-year-old man was shot multiple times. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the 34-year-old then shot himself and later died, adding a gun was located near his body outside of the home.

Police said they do not yet have a motive.

The identities of the three people have not been released, pending family notification.

Neighbors said they heard shots

Many who live nearby said they immediately reacted to the commotion.

"I came running outside. There was a crowd of people, people trying to help him. The ambulance came. They took him," Karla Toledo said. "They've been neighbors for a long time, more than 15 years, but we never really like spoke to them much.

"Everybody is just shocked because, like I said, since they're a very quiet family, to hear something of this magnitude to happen from them is very unexpected, very shocking," she added.

Across the street at a deli, workers said one of the family members came in just 30 minutes before the shootings to buy a Lotto ticket, just like always, adding he was seen smiling, with no indication anything was wrong.
