Woman Recalls Terrifying Bronx Robbery That Left Wrists Broken

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Bronx woman shared her terrifying story Sunday, after getting attacked during an attempted robbery.

As CBS2's Ilana Gold reported, cameras caught everything in the attack just before 3 a.m. Saturday in the Longwood section of the Bronx. Police late Sunday were looking to track down the suspects.

Police said the suspects approached the 60-year-old woman from behind at Tipton Avenue and East 161st Street, put her in a choke hold, and tried to rip her purse from her arm.

A day after the attack, Gold asked the woman how she was feeling.

"I'm not feeling good," the woman said. "My back is hurt, my feet hurt, they broke my hands."

The woman showed CBS2 the after her trip to the hospital from the force of the robbery attempt.

She said the muggers told her only, 'Give me the purse, give me the purse,'" the woman said.

The woman said she had just gotten off the subway after a trip to the casino at the time of the attack, and was heading home.

"They tried taking my purse," she said. "I said: 'I don't have money. I don't have money.' They left, and I'm running."

But one of the suspects chased her down and kicked her in the legs, causing her to fall and break her wrist, police said.

The perpetrators then took off – leaving the woman's purse behind, police said.

"I don't know what happened," the woman said.

The victim said she was on the street corner for about 10 minutes screaming for help, but she couldn't get anyone's attention.

"I'm think I'm dying," the woman said of her feelings at the time.

The woman eventually managed to get up to walk home. She said she had never seen the suspects before, and is now scared to go out.

Police late Sunday were trying to track the suspects down. The victim said she will not feel safe until they are caught.
