Brooklyn Man Targeted Elderly Women In Bronx Robberies, Police Say

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Brooklyn man was facing charges Wednesday, in a pair of robberies in the Belmont section of the Bronx.

Daniel Deynes, 26, has been charged with three counts of robbery, four counts of burglary, three counts of possessing stolen property, two counts of assault, and one each of grand larceny, and petit larceny.

On August 14, he allegedly entered the home of a 90-year-old woman on Adams Place through an unlocked door, and demanded money. The victim handed over $40 in cash, and a gold chain with two wedding rings and a cross on it.

Then, on August 21, Deynes allegedly followed an 82-year-old woman into a building near Arthur Avenue and East 188th Street. He grabbed a gold chain from her neck, pushed her down, and kicked her before taking off, police said.

Both victims immigrated to the U.S. from Italy decades ago and have been longtime members at the same church.

Prior to his arrest, Deynes' picture was plastered all over a local senior center, as residents grew concerned.

"We are very nervous. Believe me," one elderly woman said.

Another woman said she had been hiding her chains while she's outside and tries to walk with a friend.
