Sources: Suspects Crash Into 2 Vehicles During Bronx Chase; At Least 2 Injured
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- At least two people were injured person was injured Monday afternoon when a car being chased by police crashed into a multiple vehicles in the Bronx, sources said.
Police were called for a report of shots fired late Monday afternoon at 163rd Street and Third Avenue in the Bronx, sources told 1010 WINS.
Officers at the scene saw two men firing a weapon from a vehicle, and they approached the suspect who sped off, sources told CBS2. Children were being released from two nearby schools at the time, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported.
Yvette Cordoba knows the neighborhood and was outraged that the gunmen would be so brazen.
"It's heavy populations over there, so you cannot even think how people could shoot," she said. "I just can't understand that. That's crazy."
Joined by more officers in a marked squad car, police began pursuing the suspects, sources said. The suspects struck into a livery cab at 163rd Street and Trinity Avenue and threw the gun out the window, sources said.
One person in the livery cab was injured, sources said.
The suspects went on to crash head-on into another vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was injured and was reported in serious, but stable, condition, sources said.
The suspects then bailed from the vehicle and fled on foot, but all three were caught between Intervale Avenue and Kelly Street and were arrested, sources said.
