At Least 6 People Injured In Massive Bronx Apartment Fire
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Nearly 200 firefighters battled a five-alarm fire in a Bronx apartment building Monday afternoon.
The massive fire broke out just before noon in the cockloft of 1750 Montgomery Avenue in the Morris Heights section.
"Difficult fire, 'cause we had to cut the roof in a lot of places to get access to the fire," FDNY Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Brennan told WCBS 880's Marla Diamond.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the top floor.
"Just the fact that we used water on the electric, all those various things. They may be out of the apartment for a certain period of time, but it's most certainly repairable," FDNY Chief James Leonard told 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon.
The fire was brought under control just after 2 p.m.
At least four firefighters and two civilians suffered minor injuries, Brennan said.
The Red Cross is helping more than a dozen families displaced by the blaze.
