Bronx Livery Cab Driver Hits Robber With Car After Being Shot Twice
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A livery cab driver in the Bronx is recovering after being shot during a robbery Wednesday.
The incident took place at around 11 a.m. at 172nd Street and Longfellow Avenue.
The driver was shot in the hand and shoulder. The gunman took off running.
The driver, 57, chased the suspect and pinned him against a wall with his cab.
Nonetheless the gunman got away.
Fernando Mateo, head of the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, is hoping to hear from any other drivers who may have unwittingly helped the suspect get away, perhaps by taking him to a hospital.
"This guy is dangerous. He is armed. He's a shooter," Mateo told 1010 WINS. "We're very scared that he's going to hurt or shoot another one of our drivers."
Mateo believes the gunman is hospitalized after being struck by the cab.
"We want to make sure that we get this guy off the street," Mateo said.
The wounded driver is expected to recover.
