Suspect Charged In Slaying Of Bronx Homeless Shelter Employee

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A suspect was arrested and charged Tuesday with the murder of a homeless shelter employee in the Bronx.

The employee, Ana Isabel Charle, 36, was found shot at 5:48 p.m. Monday at 237th Street and Bullard Avenue in the Wakefield section of the Bronx, police said. She was lying on the sidewalk and had suffered a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

She was pronounced dead a short time later at Montefiore Medical Center, police said.

Charle was a manager at the Project Renewal homeless shelter.

Police on Tuesday arrested West Spruill, 39, a convicted murderer who had lived at the shelter until January.

Spruill was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

There was no word on a motive Tuesday night.
