More Than 1 Million Doses Of Heroin Found In Bronx Home, 9 Arrested
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Nine people were arrested after authorities discovered 140 pounds of packaged heroin stashed at a private home in the Bronx.
According to officials, police were prompted to search the home on Harrison Avenue in the University Heights section of the Bronx on Thursday after arresting two men carrying what turned out to be $50,000 in large, black bags. The men had been observed leaving the home earlier that day.
Once inside, police found what appeared to be a well-organized heroin mill in the basement of the home, along with an estimated one million doses of packaged heroin in glassine envelopes and $250,000 in cash. Heroin packaging paraphernalia, including grinders and stamps with names like "Priority Mail" and "Red Bull" were also recovered.
Police estimate the recovered heroin has a combined street value of around $15 million.
When authorities went to search the home, several suspects attempted to flee the scene by running out and climbing a surrounding fence. Three more suspects were found hiding throughout the home.
The suspects will be arraigned in Manhattan on Friday.
