Police: Man Stole Dog From Outside Bronx Grocery Store
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police were searching Tuesday night for a suspect who untied a dog from a tree and stole the animal in the Bronx this past weekend.
Police said at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, a 64-year-old man tied his 2-year-old Shih-Tzu dog to a tree and walked into a grocery store at 3470 Third Ave. in the Morrisania section of the Bronx.
The suspect came up while the man was inside, untied the dog and took it, police said. The suspect then ran south on Third Avenue.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic male between 40 and 50 years old. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored T-shirt, dark-colored shorts and black sneakers.
Police have released surveillance video.
On Monday in an unrelated case in Brooklyn, police said a suspect stole a 35-ytearyear-old man's Cockalier dog from a laundromat at 334 Knickerbocker Ave. in Brooklyn. Police were still searching for a suspect in that case Tuesday night.
