Boy, 5, Falls From Window In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 5-year-old boy was hospitalized Tuesday night after falling from a window in the Bronx.

Police said the boy fell from a fifth-floor window at 1415 Bristow St. in the Crotona Park East section of the Bronx.

As CBS2's Valerie Castro reported, residents said the boy fell into an alleyway next to a neighboring building. Some said they heard the commotion as soon as it happened.

"Me and my wife were cooking in the kitchen and then we heard some screaming," said Thomas Santiago. "The gurney came with the ambulance. They took him out on a gurney and straight to the ambulance."

The circumstances surrounding the fall were still under investigation late Tuesday, but one woman said she saw the child's mother immediately after it happened.

"I seen the mom, that she was crying and stuff," said Vidalia Vallez.

Many could not imagine what the boy's mother was going through.

"I was scared; surprised, because I have grandkids too. You know, my grandkids are still small; they're young kids, and that's a little kid that fell," Santiago said. "If he fell, I don't know how it happened. I just know it was very scary."

The boy was unconscious when he was taken to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, police said.

He remained in critical, but stable, condition late Tuesday.

The incident came two days after a 3-year-old boy fell from the 13th floor of a Harlem apartment building and died.

Latyr Sene fell from a Harlem River Houses building at 2850 Frederick Douglass Blvd. around 7:15 p.m. Sunday, police said.

He was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital Center.
