Man Dead, 2 Women Hurt When Alleged Drunk Driver T-Bones Car In The Bronx
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man was killed and two women were hurt when police say a drunk driver slammed into a vehicle in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx early Saturday morning.
Investigators say 54-year-old Andres Mayora, of the Bronx, was driving a black jeep northbound on Bronx Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he T-boned a Nissan Altima making a left turn onto Bronx Boulevard from Burke Avenue.
The collision drove the Nissan into another vehicle travelling southbound on Bronx Boulevard. The black jeep hit two parked cars before finally coming to a stop.
Authorities responded and pronounced the 31-year-old driver of the Nissan, identified as Shiquan Dunn of the Bronx, dead at the scene.
Dunn's 28-year-old female passenger, as well as the 48-year-old female driver of the vehicle traveling south on Bronx Boulevard were rushed to NYC Health+Hospitals/Jacobi. Their conditions weren't immediately known, but authorities say they were expected to recover.
A distraught woman leaving flowers and a candle at the intersection told CBS2's Dave Carlin the family wants drivers to slow down and stay off roads if they are not sober.
The sound of the crash sent neighbor Fred Young bolting out of his apartment.
"When I looked, I saw cars on top of the sidewalk – one car here, one car that was parked here," he told Carlin.
His car was damaged, so now, he must file a police report. His anger was reserved for the driver he says should have been off the streets.
Young added his thoughts were with the family of the man who died.
Mayora was taken to a local hospital after complaining of chest pains. He's facing DWI and related charges, according to police.
