NYPD: Bicyclist Killed After Hit-And-Run Crash In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have identified a bicyclist who was killed in a hit-and-run crash in the Bronx early Saturday morning.

According to police, Giovanni Nin, 26, of the Bronx, was struck by a silver BMW X5 SUV as he was attempting to cross East Tremont Avenue near Mayflower Avenue at around 12:40 a.m. The vehicle did not remain at the site of the crash.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced Nin dead at the scene.

"Just look at me. I won't be able to be the same woman I was yesterday morning," the victim's mother, Raisa Jimenez, told CBS2's Ali Bauman.

Nin's uncle told CBS2 said he was a dedicated man working two jobs.

"He was a really great kid with a whole future. He was working two jobs, two shifts. He was going back to work for his supervisor that evening and he rode the bike so his girlfriend could stay with the car," Paul Diaz said.

Family said the victim was saving up for a wedding and that they're now only left with memories.

"That was one of the lights people took away from me, he was my light," Jiminez said.

His family is begging the driver to come forward, saying that no one should be left to die in the middle of the street.

Residents who live in the area say it's not surprising that something like this would happen in this area, 1010 WINS Roger Stern reported.

"It's not well lit over here, and it seems like it's speedy - people coming really fast," one resident said.

Police have not disclosed how fast the car was going at the time of the crash. An investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
