Suspect Sought In Beating, Stabbing Death Of Woman In Bronx Housing Development

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police late Friday identified a suspect in a beating and stabbing that killed a woman in a Bronx public housing development.

Officers were called at 8:30 p.m. Thursday for an assault in progress inside an apartment in the building at 303 E. 135th St., in the Mitchell Houses.

They found Wanda Martin, 53, at the scene with blunt trauma to her head and stab wounds to her back, police said.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police have identified Darryl Gibbs, 50, as a suspect in the homicide.

He was described as a black male standing 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 270 pounds, and he was last seen wearing a dark-colored sweat shirt, police said.
