Death Of 4-Month-Old Bronx Baby Declared Homicide

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The death of a baby boy in the Bronx has been declared a homicide.

The NYPD issued the update Tuesday in the death of 4-month-old Christopher Rhodes.

Authorities were summoned on Aug. 7 to Jacobi Medical Center, where the baby was being treated for head and torso injuries. He could not be saved.

Police initially said the infant's father was feeding the baby boy and left him lying on a pillow on the couch. When the father walked away, the baby fell off the couch, hitting his head, according to police.

The medical examiner later determined that he died of blunt force trauma to the head.

There have been no arrests. The case is still under investigation.
