It's time to take a look at the latest best and worst stories on the NY/NJ sports landscape.

THREE UP

1. Brock Nelson

With the seconds ticking away toward a team-imposed deadline to put his name on the dotted line, Nelson agreed to terms on a new three-year contract with the Islanders. The deal is worth a reported $7.5 million.

2. Jets' Offense

We knew the defense would be good, but the offense surprisingly was as well during last Sunday's regular season opener. Ryan Fitzpatrick made his throws, Chris Ivory found running room, Brandon Marshall recovered an intercepted pass, among other positives. 3. Derick Brassard

THREE DOWN

1. Eli Manning

His mental lapse cost the Giants a win during their season opener. Let's just hope it doesn't become a pattern for him.

2. Jacob deGrom

The Mets' ace has struggled of late, but a bounce-back is to be expected. It's doubtful he'll be on this list again anytime soon.

3. Steve Bernier

The Islanders brought him on a tryout as depth insurance, in the event Nelson didn't sign. He did sign, and now Bernier's chances of making the team are slim -- and training camp hasn't even started yet.
